Day two of the inaugural Māori Wāhine Nationals saw two rounds of closely contested matches and fantastic individual performances.

ROUND TWO:
Tāmaki Makaurau Māori 163-3 off 20.0 overs beat Te Waipounamu Māori 67-10 off 20 overs
Tāmaki Makaurau claimed a comprehensive victory over Te Waipounamu in the Southerners first match of Nationals. Batting first, the Aucklanders got off to a fine start through captain and opener, Skye Bowden (27). Middle-order batters Claire Crooks (45*) and Anika Todd (39) pushing the total to a whopping 163 runs. For Te Waipounamu, player/coach Tanya Morrison (1-19) proved economical.
In response, two early wickets from Kaitlin Halliday (2-1) swung the momentum in Tāmaki Makaurau’s favour. Katriel Thomas (30) and Harriett Cuttance (17) showed some resistance, however another 3-fa for Mollie Drumm (3-14) helped secure a victory for Tāmaki Makaurau.
CD Māori 92-7 off 19 overs beat ND Māori 91-10 off 19 overs
CD Māori held their nerve to secure a narrow victory over ND Māori this morning. Batting first, ND Māori were able to total 91-10 on the back of solid innings from Holly Topp (31) and Meddy Hyde (16). Central Hinds representative Ocean Bartlett (3-8) led the way with the ball, with other wickets shared across the bowling unit.
Kerry Tomlinson (20) got the CD innings off on the right foot, before Meddy Hyde picked up the key wicket. Two wickets apiece for Dayle Anderson (2-13) Elle Archer (2-16) continued to put the pressure on CD, but the cool head of Ocean Bartlett (15* prevailed, seeing CD home with an over to spare.
ROUND THREE:
ND Māori 122-7 off 20 overs beat Te Waipounamu Māori 112-7 off 20 overs
ND Māori picked up a close-fought victory this afternoon against Te Waipounamu Māori. Batting first, ND were led by captain Sam Barriball (47*) who was the backbone of the innings – ably supported by Jessica Benge (17). Young seamer Emily Evans (3-18) and player/coach Tanya Morrison (3-24) taking regular wickets for the southerners to keep the total down.
Te Waipounamu number 3 bat, Katriel Thomas (39), then played a fantastic innings, giving her side every chance to sneak a victory up until the final over. She was supported by middle-order batters Danielle Hemi (21) and captain Harriett Cuttance (17) who played valuable innings for their side. ND Māori were able to hold their nerve, with three runouts (one the key wicket of Thomas) helping them to a win.
Tāmaki Makaurau Māori 113-6 off 19.5 overs beat Te Whanganui-a-Tara 112-7 off 20 overs
Another fantastic match of cricket saw Tāmaki Makaurau Māori sneak home in yet another final over thriller. Batting first, Te Whanganui-a-Tara were led by capped WHITE FERN, Jess McFadyen (59) – who lit up Cornwall Park with 4 x sixes and 4 x fours. Nicole Baird played a measured knock through the middle to see the Wellingtonians to 113. Leg-spinner Mollie Drumm (5-6) continued to impress, claiming a five-wicket-bag, and only conceding six runs from her four overs.
Tāmaki Makaurau captain Skye Bowden was another looking to capitalise on form, scoring a valuable 42 runs at the top of the order alongside fellow opener Raiha Jeory Reynolds (18). Wellington seamer, Emma Parker (3-7) got her side back in contention, taking the big wicket of Bowden alongside two others. Tāmaki Makaurau were able to regain composure through middle-order batters, Claire Crooks (12*), Anika Tauwhare (15) and Holly Lightbourne (11*) – eventually sneaking home with just one ball to spare.
