St Andrew’s College 119/2 off 36.4 overs (S Hair 47, T McIntosh 3-15) beat Wellington College 118 all out off 32.3 overs (S Mistry 35, T Hughson 1-16), Fitzherbert Park 1
St Andrew’s College picked up a big win on Fitzherbert Park 1 today against competition leaders Wellington College. Bowling first, STAC put the pressure on early thanks to pace bowler Ryan Bond (2-24). WC were able to consolidate their innings through opener Shivam Mistry (35) and Zack Pearson-Harkness (24) – who managed to compile 43 runs for the fourth wicket. STAC continued to look dangerous with the ball – Hugo Fairweather-Logie (2-24) breaking the partnership, while Thomas McIntosh’s (3-22) three wickets (including two-in-two-balls) saw WC bowled out for 118. STAC lost an early wicket in response, however Spencer Hair (47) and Liam Costeloe (40*) were measured in their approach - waiting for the bad ball and combining for an 81-run partnership. Costello and Ryan Bond (22*) put on the finishing touches, seeing STAC home in the 37th over.
Auckland Grammar School 125-9 off 40 overs (J Monk 37, A Sharma 4-7) beat Napier Boys’ High School 74 all out off 28.3 overs (L McNally 24, H Beale 2-17), Manawaroa Park
Auckland Grammar School took pole position today after securing a win against Napier Boys’ High School. After deciding to bat first, Auckland Grammar were put on the back foot, losing three wickets in the space of two overs, including two in an over from Ollie Stafford (2-25) who was again impressive with the ball. AGS’s middle order had to work hard, led by Joel Monk (37) who batted with the tail to help AGS to a defendable score of 125-9. AGS went straight to work with the ball, having NBHS in trouble early thanks to three early wickets from Ben Lucas (3-7). While NBHS’s Luke McNally (24) put up some fight, Aarian Sharma then took over the game - taking four of the last five NBHS wickets to secure yet another victory for AGS.
John McGlashan College 192-4 off 40 overs (F Gordon 53, F Gordon 5-19) beat Tauranga Boys’ College 144 all out off 28.1 overs (L Fitzgerald 27, C Manning 2-12), Fitzherbert Park 2
John McGlashan College picked up their first win of tournament today against Tauranga Boys’ College, on the back of an outstanding all-round effort with bat and ball. Batting first, JMC got off to a positive start thanks to openers Angus McDiarmid (47) and Harry McDonald (19) – the loss of McDonald saw Fred Gordon (53*) to the crease, who formed a fine partnership of 84 runs with McDiarmid. Gordon took it upon himself to bat the innings, scoring his first half-century of tournament, and working well with a hard-hitting middle order to push the total to a competitive 192-4. Ciarán Manning (2-12) was again best with the ball for TBC, adding another two wickets to his tally. The TBC innings started positively thanks to opener M Dow (25), before two wickets in a Fred Gordon over changed the momentum of the match. Gordon (5-19) combined with Harry McDonald (2-38) and Luca Riley (2-18) to run through the TBC batting line up, adding a 5-wicket haul to his already fantastic day of cricket. Lawson Fitzgerald (27) and Ben McKinlay (22) gave TBC a fighting chance, but it was not to be – TBC bowled out in the 29th over, 48 runs short.
