NZ Over-60s perform in inaugural World Cup

The New Zealand Over-60s have put together a strong showing at the inaugural Over 60’s World Cup, hosted by Queensland Veterans Cricket on the Sunshine Coast, Australia.

The side strung together five consecutive victories in lead up to the final, only to be beaten by 7-wickets by Pakistan in the Grand Final.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, New Zealand were able to post a competitive 173/9, highlighted by a Russell Drake half-century (51 runs), ably supported by Neil Rogers (45 runs) & opener Allan Bligh (21 runs).

In reply, Pakistan got off to a positive start thanks to Muhummad Aslam (71 runs), before he was dismissed by spin-bowler Andrew Nuttall.

Nuttall continued his good form from the past five matches, taking 3 wickets for just 24 runs.

It wasn’t to be enough, however, as Pakistan chased down the total in the 42nd over to be crowned winners of the tournament.

Batsmen Russell Drake and Graeme Inglis finished as top run-scorers for New Zealand over the tournament, while bowlers Robert Stachurski & Andrew Nuttall led the bowling effort.
