Coaches from the 2022/23 cohort of New Zealand Cricket’s ‘Pathway to Performance Programme’ were recently given the opportunity to observe and learn from WHITE FERNS coaches at a training camp held in Lincoln. 

Kath Clark (Canterbury), Amanda Hardy (Canterbury) and Shelley Fruin (Auckland) – all graduated from the ‘Pathway to Performance Programme’ last summer - and were brought in to accelerate their development as coaches. 

Former WHITE FERN, Shelley Fruin, took many learnings from the wider WHITE FERNS coaching staff. 

“The opportunity to attend the WHITE FERNS camp was very valuable – in particular, being able to ask questions of highly respected and experienced coaches,” said Fruin. 

“I asked Dean (Brownlie) a lot of batting-related questions, while Ben (Sawyer) was awesome and very open with his explanations and advice,” Fruin continued. 

St Margaret’s College Convenor of Cricket and Coach, Amanda Hardy, spoke glowingly of her experience within the WHITE FERNS training environment. 

“The opportunity to be part of the WHITE FERNS camp and to see players and coaches in action was a very inspiring and positive experience,” said Hardy.  

“The culture of the group, the passion and energy everyone brings was great to see first-hand,” Hardy continued.  

“The intent and purpose within each session were evident, and the work everyone puts in to get to where they are today absolutely indicates for me that we are in the professional era of the women's game,” Hardy continued.  

“It is super exciting to know the pathways available for us now as female coaches - I loved every minute and I'm very grateful for the opportunity to have been there as part of our Pathway 2 Performance Coaching Pathway.” 

The 2023/24 NZC Pathway to Performance Programme cohort will be announced later this month.
