Smash + play guide

Smash+ | Designed for Year 9-10 cricketers

Smash+ is designed to enhance the skill acquisition of junior secondary school (year 9 - 10) cricketers.

It is designed to 'bridge the gap' between ANZ Junior Game formats (for year 7 and 8 cricketers), and traditional cricket. Making the transition easier, and games more enjoyable, for all young cricketers.

Based upon proven junior cricket formats, Smash+ results in increased activity for each Player, an increased opportunity to apply skills, and a more enjoyable cricket experience for all.

Smash+ incorporates a number of elements that enhance skill development for young cricketers:

Modifications

A slightly shorter pitch length and lighter ball reduces the number of wides bowled. This enhances skill development with more balls in play = more action for all players.

Cricket doesn't always need to be 11 players vs 11 players. Reducing the number of players in each team enhances skill development through every player being more actively involved in the field.

Less standing around, less time 'waiting for your turn'. More action for all players.

Maximise Time

Smash+ involves 50% of overs being bowled from the same end - rather than changing ends every over. For example, in a 20 over game, 10 overs should be bowled from one end, and the next 10 overs bowled from the other end.

This reduces the downtime between overs, resulting in more active time for the players. It also enables the game to be played faster, reducing the overall game duration.

Cricket is evolving - there are various styles, exciting techniques and may different ways to play.
